'Tales of Hoffnung' is a series of short films animating the humorous cartooning of Gerard Hoffnung, reflecting a whimsical approach to music and its performance. Hoffnung was a man of many parts, graphic artist, raconteur, musical clown, accomplished musician and conductor, he published eleven books of cartoons before his premature death in 1959. Halas and Batchelor adapted seven of the most famous Hoffnung titles The Symphony Orchestra; the Palm Court Orchestra; the Vacuum Cleaner; the Music Academy; Professor Ya-Ya's Memoirs; the Maestro; Hoffnung's Birds Bees and Storks.
