'Mica Strip Wound With Wire.' One of four examples of photosensitive (selenium) material in various stages of construction. Fixed to wooden mount. Part of apparatus for transmitting pictures by telegraph (phototelegraphy). Designed and constructed by Dr Shelford Bidwell in 1881.
