Hand prints on last remnants on Kodak 'Endura' colour paper. Printed by Peter Mitchell's favoured technician, Ian Breckin of Silvertone (Leeds). Breckin has always printed all of Peter's work, for the last 35 years (he specialises in printing for artists).

Born in South London, Peter Mitchell visited Leeds in 1973 to visit some friends and has lived there ever since. Aware that the speed of development meant that the city was changing before his eyes, he decided to document the changing urban landscape. Mitchell photographed his subjects in a formal manner, using a stepladder to achieve a raised viewpoint.

Very unusually for the time, he photographed in colour. In 1979 this project formed one of the first colour photography exhibitions in Britain. Held at the Impressions Gallery in York, it was entitled ‘A New Refutation of the Viking IV Space Mission’.
