NPR stands for noiseless portable reflex. As the NPR was so quiet and portable, it was often used for documentary films, and was an important part of the ‘Cinema Verite’ movement in France. The NPR and its successor the ACL both featured a magazine design that allowed for instant re-loading, a design that has since become a standard feature on modern film cameras.
