A photograph of five boys jumping over a rope, taken in August 1935 by Harold Tomlin for the Daily Herald.
The photograph shows children playing at a camp in Epping Forest, London. Saved from development in the late nineteenth century, Epping Forest remains the largest public open space in the London area. During the 1930s, many of London's poor could not afford holidays or trips to the country. Areas like Epping Forest provided valuable space for recreation.
