A photograph of a man looking at a model 'flying boat', at the Science Museum, London, taken in December 1935 by Edward G Malindine for the Daily Herald.

The model is that of an Imperial Airways 'Short Empire' S.23 flying boat. Imperial Airways was founded in 1924 to develop air communications between Britain and the Empire. The 'Short Empire' flying boat first went into service in 1936, on the route between Britain and Australia.
