The paddle steamer SS 'La Marguerite' can be seen on the horizon, whilst in the foreground a young boy, probably Adams' son, stands next to Adams' boat 'Spitfire'. Adams owned three boats including the 'Spitfire', which were kept on the beach at Deal in Kent where the family had a house.
