A Woodburytype entitled 'Dr Schliemann', taken by Lock and Whitfield in 1877. This Woodburytype is taken from a series of seven volumes entitled 'Men of Mark'. Published between 1876 and 1883, each volume featured 36 portraits of prominent men of the time. A brief biographical essay by Thompson Cooper (1837-1904) accompanied each portrait.

Dr Heinrich Schliemann (1822-1890) was a pioneer in archaeology, he carried out excavations of ancient Troy and Mycenae in Greece in the 1870s.

This Woodburytype is taken from a series of seven volumes entitled 'Men of Mark'. Published between 1876 and 1883, each volume featured 36 portraits of prominent men of the time. A brief biographical essay by Thompson Cooper (1837-1904) accompanied each portrait.
