A photograph entitled 'Piscine probatoire - Bethesda', taken by James Robertson and Felice Beato in 1857.

The photograph shows the Pool of Bethesda in Jerusalem where, according to the Bible, Jesus healed a man who had been lame for thirty-eight years.

Robertson and Beato began working together in 1853. Together they photographed in Constantinople (now Istanbul), Greece, Jerusalem, and Balaklava where they documented the Crimean War, continuing the work of Roger Fenton (1819-1869).
