A photograph entitled 'Monument d'Absalom' taken by James Robertson and Felice Beato in 1857.
The photograph shows the Monument to Absalom in Jerusalem. The Monument to Absalom (or Yad Avshalom) is traditionally ascribed to Absalom, the rebellious son of King David.
Robertson and Beato began working together in 1853. Together they photographed in Constantinople (now Istanbul), Greece, Jerusalem, and Balaklava where they documented the Crimean War, continuing the work of Roger Fenton (1819-1869).
