Albumen print 'The Return After Three Days' by Julia Margaret Cameron, 1865. A photographic study of Mary Kellaway (born 1846), Mary Ann Hillier (1847-1936), William Frederick 'Freddy' Gould (born 1861) and Mary Ryan (1848-1914), taken by Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879) in 1865. This albumen print forms part of the Herschel Album, created by Cameron for her friend Sir John Herschel (1792-1871). Cameron's inspiration for this photograph was the Bible. Mary, Joseph and Jesus (aged twelve) travel to Jerusalem for Passover. Mary and Joseph then return home without realising that Jesus has stayed behind: 'And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple'. No inscription. '53' handwritten in black ink, recto mount, top right corner.
