Bronze statue of Isis nursing the infant Horus, Egyptian, 600-30BC
The Egyptian god Isis was worshipped as the mother goddess, the goddess of fertility, and was married to Osiris. Osiris was murdered by Isis’ brother but was brought back to life long enough to conceive a son, Horus. Horus avenged his father’s death and became king.
