An albumen print cabinet card photographic portrait of the artist's model and watercolourist Marie Spartali (1843-1927) entitled 'Hypatia', copied in about 1870 from the original large format albumen print taken by Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879) in 1868. The cabinet card is cream, has a gold border and facsimile caption. Hypatia was an Alexandrian Neoplatonist philosopher renowned for her beauty, who was murdered by Christian zealots. She was also the subject of Charles Kingsley's (1819-1875) novel 'Hypatia'.
