Large mobile phone call box with advertising sign, used in Bamenda, Cameroon, 1997-2012. Constructed by the owner over 15 years.

Call boxes are a popular industry in Cameroon. Those who operate the boxes offer mobile phone minutes or telephone calls to customers. The boxes are often brightly coloured. The owner of this box, Emmanuel Bongsunu, began working in the mobile phone industry some time around 1997, when it was not a large business in Cameroon. Over the years, as business has improved, so has the size of his call box. He had even expanded into selling small items such as food and cigarettes.
