Skis, Holmenkollen brand, Norway, c. 1970s. Used in 1979 by James Ephraim Lovelock when his home at Coombe Mill, Devon, UK was snowed in for a week.

These skis were acquired along with the archive of James Lovelock in 2012. As well as documents the collection also includes surprising objects like these cross-country skis. They provide insight into Lovelock’s experience of working life after his decision to work from his remote Devonshire home. Lovelock used the skis during the winter of 1978-9 when he was snowed in by 10 foot-high drifts.
