Thomas White formed the White Sewing Machine Company of Cleveland, Ohio in 1876, and this vibrating shuttle lock-stitch machine was made in the period 1890-1900. The White company was prominent in the making of steam-powered vehicles in the early 20th century although they continued to manufacture sewing machines until the 1950s.
