5 additional wood and metal pieces from the model of the boiler the HMS Thunderer (1872), illustrating the damage sustained by the machinery after an explosion in 1876, consists of 1) one wooden gasket pipe joint, 2) two connecting pipes, one of which has a blast hole in the side, 3) two warped sections of boiler plating, the larger of which fits the right hand side end of the boiler wall, and the smaller fits longitudinaly across the top part of the front of the boiler.
