Vessel Traffic Management System (VTS)
- Made:
- 1970-1999 in United Kingdom
Vessel Traffic Management System (VTS), used by the PLA in conjunction with sonar chart recorder (2019-185) and microphone (2019-186). Linked to a radar system and visual display unit, this system was used to track and communicate with ships on the Thames, unsigned, United Kingdom, 1970-1999.
The VTS was introduced at the Port of London Authority in 1959, though this is a later iteration (exact date unknown). This later console would have been attached to radar and a visual display unit and would track ships all the way into central London. The Pye microphone (object no. 2019-186) was used in conjunction with this VTS console to communicate with ships navigating the Thames.
