Discatron portable record player, 1966-1968. Has a slot for a 7" 45 rpm disc on the top and uses a large 9V battery. Two of the feet are missing from underneath the case.
The Discatron portable record player originally cost £27-10-10. Called 'the world's most revolutionary record player' in company ads and literature, and promising '1000 sides without requiring a battery change', it was made for the UK market and advertised on Radio London, the notorious pirate radio station. Print adverts stated, 'The only portable record player on the Go Go. Pop in a disc. Press a button. It's gear!'. It was a very successful and popular product of the sixties.
