Leevers-Rich model E audio tape recorder in steel console, BBC code ET4/3, Ser. No. 1489, 1960-1965.

These valve, usually mono, recorders were mainly used for master recordings (after editing), or for playing back pre-recorded radio broadcasts on the air. They were also used by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The Leevers-Rich company was one of two major suppliers of audio tape recorders to the BBC at this time, the other being EMI.
