Sonifex Micro HS cart player and record unit c.1977.

NAB cartridges ("Carts") were endless 1/4inch tape loops of up to 60 minutes - although between 30 secs and 2 minutes was a more common length. The cart, containing a jingle or trail (or advert in ILR) was placed in the machine. Pressing "play" gave instant play and the machine continued to play the cart until it detected a cue (recorded on a special cue track) which denoted that the loop had got round to the beginning again and the machine then stopped, ready to play it again.
