BBC RP2/1 twin turntable reproducing desk (3-speed, mono), 1956-1970. Based on a modified Garrard 401 turntable.

Can be used to replay coarse-groove pressings and disks up to 13 inches in diameter at 78 rpm, or for fine-groove mono at either 33 1/3 rpm or 45 rpm. Pickup cartridges of the turnover type are used, mounted on pickup arms RP2B/1 to which are coupled optical (groove locator) pickup position indicators on the turntable units. RP2C/1 has an "instant start" facility - acheived by raising or lowering a lightweight thin aluminium turntable platter onto the massive permanently-rotating Garrard platter beneath it.
