BBC desk cue light. Spun aluminium housing with 15watt mains bulb.
Radio broadcasters need to know when they are live on air and should be speaking during a programme, so they receive a signal or ‘cue’ from their producer. When the programme is about to broadcast the studio needs to be silent, so a system of coloured lights is used to give performers and presenters their cue.
This green cue light in an aluminium housing sits on top of a desk and lights up when it is time to start talking.
