Sony D2 (D-2) professional videorecorder DVR18P. Ser: 10011, c.1988.
Created by Ampex in 1988 and used by Sony, it was Sony's second digital video format - using the same huge cassettes as the D1 system. Unlike D1 (D-1) it stored composite video rather than component video. Unpopular, it was soon overtaken by the D3 (D-3) composite format invented at NHK and introduced commercially by Panasonic in 1991.
