More

The MX 032/2 microphone capsule attaches to the Ela M302/2 amplifier body to form a very high-quality condenser microphone. These microphones were made by Berlin-based company Neumann, but badged and distributed outside Germany by Telefunken. This example dates to around 1932, and was owned and used by the BBC for studio recording. These microphones are known as “bottle mics” due to their shape. The large body contains a vacuum tube and circuits to amplify the sound. The microphone capsule is interchangeable to allow different directional characteristics for different applications. The Ela M302/2 is a very high-quality microphone, which reproduces sound with great accuracy, and examples are still in use today in studios like Abbey Road.
