Lip microphone Type L1, specially designed by the BBC and manufactured by Marconi, 1937. In box with equaliser.
In 1937, the BBC produced a Type B ribbon microphone design using improved magnets, enabling a much smaller overall size to be achieved, much appreciated for outside broadcast work. The Type B was adapted for use as a close-distance commentator's lip microphone designated L1.
