First aid kit in roll-up bag
- Made:
- Unknown in unknown place

First aid kit, rolled containing bandages, vaseline, safety pins, carbonate of soda, tourniquet pole, stitched with the letters 'CKM'
While we do not know who owned this first aid kit, and it is possible that the letters CKM refer to one of its original owners. It has some of the things you may need to address minor injuries as well as a tourniquet pole to stop bleeding of an arm or a leg.
The owner was likely to have been a Red Cross volunteer, denoted by the symbol on the kit. The red cross symbol was fist adopted under the Geneva Convention of 1864. It reverses the colour of the Swiss national flag of a white cross on a red background. Those wearing the red cross, crescent or crystal are protected under international law and symbolises they are there to give help. The Geneva Convention forms the basis of how soldiers and civilians should be treated during wartime.
