Bush Internet Television, Model No: ITV8401, 2001 and Bush Internet TV Wireless Infrared Keyboard, Model No: KB200, manufactured by Bush, Indonesia, 2001.
This 'Internet TV' was the result of a partnership between electronics companies Bush and Virgin in the early 2000s. Bush provided the television, while Virgin created the content for the web pages it displayed. The aim was to enable many more households to have access to the web, and to create a comfortable first time experience for consumers. In the rush to get the technology on to the market the TV was launched with some shortcomings. For instance, there was no guarantee that websites not designed specifically for the device would display properly. The original owner of this item bought it to gain experience of using the internet, but found it frustrating to use. This particular device was not a commercially success, but by the 2010s internet-enabled ‘smart televisions’ were becoming increasingly common.
