Lithograph, view of the London and Birmingham Railway when in course of construction by J. C. Bourne, published 1839. ‘Berkhampstead – Herts. June 10th 1837’. Image shows a railway cutting in the countryside with a bridge under construction. The bridge has scaffolding and there are workers. A locomotive with wagons has just passed under the bridge. There is a line of trees behind the cutting and some buildings and a church to the left of the cutting. There are hills behind the church. Published as plate XVIII ‘View of a cutting and bridge near Berkhampstead, looking N.W.: Shewing part of the town. June 1837’, in ‘Drawings of the London and Birmingham Railway, by J. C.
