Foreground shows top of deep cut area with strewn log and pulleys and horse. Frenetic activity in bottom of deep cut; workmen pushing loads of dirt and shovelling. Pulleys visible at top of other side of deep cut and ramps going down into deep cut which extends right into the distance. Trees in background on the horizon. Published as plate XIX ‘View of the Deep Cutting Near Tring with Horse-Runs, &c. June 1837’, in ‘Drawings of the London and Birmingham Railway, by J. C.
