Lithograph, view of the London and Birmingham Railway when in course of construction by J. C. Bourne, published 1839. ‘Avon Viaduct, Wolston, Warwickshire’. River with lily pads in foreground and rushes in middle ground lining the edge of the river. River runs right across to right edge of print and from here back into central area of print and beyond, through the viaduct and into the distance, rushed line both edges of the river along here. Clumps of trees just in front of the viaduct to the extreme left and right. Sheep dotted around the grass to the right in front of the viaduct. People and cattle visible underneath the fourth arch from the left. A tree shading a small hut sits between the sixth and seventh archway from the left. A train is visible travelling across the viaduct. Published as plate XXXIV ‘West Side of Viaduct over the River Avon, Near Wolston’, in ‘Drawings of the London and Birmingham Railway, by J. C. Bourne, with an historical and descriptive account by John Britton’, London : J. C. Bourne; Ackermann & Co.; C. Tilt, 1839 (inv. 1999-7495 / 2000-7644 / 2000-7769).
