Lithograph, view of the London and Birmingham Railway when in course of construction by J. C. Bourne, published 1839. ‘Sherbourne Viaduct near Coventry’ [text on lower edge of print]. Image shows a river in the foreground lined with trees and reeds/rushes. Beyond this to the centre of the image is a large house and then the railway line with viaduct and embankment. A locomotive passes along the viaduct with carriages and wagons. There is a church in the background and two stagecoaches passing under a railway bridge. There are sheep in the field in the centre of the print. Published as plate XXXV ‘View near Coventry. June 1839’, in ‘Drawings of the London and Birmingham Railway, by J. C. Bourne, with an historical and descriptive account by John Britton’, London : J. C. Bourne; Ackermann & Co.; C. Tilt, 1839 (inv. 1999-7495 / 2000-7644 / 2000-7769).
