Diamon Rio 500 mp3 player, Diamond Multimedia, 1999, USA.

Launched in September 1999 by US-based company Diamon Multimedia, the Diamon Rio 500 is considered to be one of the first MP3 digital audio players. Following its predecessor, the Rio 300, which had 32 MB memory (roughly 30 minutes of music) and connected via a computer parallel port, the Rio 500 came with 64 MB internal memory and introduced a USB connection. The device also supported both PC and Mac operating systems and came with software that allowed users to download, organise, and create playlists. Both the Rio 300 and 500 had an integrated card slot that allowed for memory expansion using a Smart Media card and were powered by AA batteries.
