Lithograph, view of the London and Birmingham Railway when in course of construction by J. C. Bourne, published 1839. ‘Box-Moor Embankment, June 11th 1837’. Foreground shows earth from the trench being dug to create an embankment. Workmen can be seen digging away at the ground, behind them wooden planks lie along the embankment with pulley system at the end of each one, attached to a cart being pulled by horses. Workmen can be seen walking up and down the planks with wheel-barrows of earth. On the right-hand side of the image is a small hut surrounded by trees.
