In the foreground rushes line the water edge to the left, a tow path is shown in the centre and a pile of boulders are piled to the right of the image. Behind the boulders, a cliff face rises up dominating most of the right side of the image, atop it are clustered trees. The tow path disappears into the middle distance behind some trees which line the edge of the water. Trees line the edge of the canal on the opposite side too, occupying most of the left side of the image, behind there are hills scattered with trees and sheep. Boats can be seen on the canal in the distance and three people are visible on the right side bank walking along the path.
