Lithograph, view of the London and Birmingham Railway when in course of construction by J. C. Bourne, published 1839. ‘Entrance to Birmingham Station, L& B,R.’. The station building sits slightly to the right in the image, three storeys high and classical in style with a portico and four ionic columns adoring the façade. Both sides of the building have atrium-style connecting architecture. On the left this is attached to the gates leading to the station platforms and to the right to terrace buildings. Two carriages pulled by horses can be seen at the right and in front of the station building. Men, women and children walk in clusters in the foreground some to the right but most towards the platforms to the left with their backs turned to the viewer.
