'Radio Celebrities' cigarette card album, 1934-1940
1934-1940
Two albums of cigarette cards showing early British radio performers, "Radio Celebrities" and "Radio Celebrities Second Series", manufactured by Imperial Tobacco and distributed under the brand name W D and H O Wills and Company, probably Bristol, 1934-1940.
These series of 'Radio Celebrity' cards were produced in 1934 and 1935. Cards like these were popular and were often the only way for radio listeners to see what the performers they heard on the radio actually looked like. W D and H O Wills and Company, later Imperial Tobacco, were the first company to include advertising cards in their cigarette packs in 1887. They produced their first 'general interest' set in 1896.
