'Phones on the Move: Personal Communications in the 1990s - a discussion document', document produced by the Department for Trade and Industry, British, 1989.
‘Phones on the Move’ was a consultation document produced by the British Department for Trade and Industry (DTI) in 1989. The document presented a vision of how mobile communications might look in the 1990s, and proposed the idea of an ‘office in the pocket’. During this period the young mobile phone industry was growing rapidly, and the GSM system which introduced text messaging was still very new. The idea that a phone might offer office-like capabilities was still a distant prospect.
