Hand-painted glass lantern slide illustrating scene from 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll. Slide No 36 "The knave was standing before them in chains", showing the King and Queen of Hearts.

This lantern slide is one of a set illustrating Lewis Carroll's story, 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. It and the rest of the set were projected in a magic lantern alongside the lanternist reciting the story for groups of people to enjoy. The text from the slide reading for this slide repeats the words from the novel - "The knave was standing before them in chains".
