Photic stimulator (stroboscope) made by Scophony of Wells in 1950. Used at Burden Neurological Institute with EEG recorder and EEG averagers to investigate epilepsy as well as the way the healthy brain processes stimuli. Flashes were produced singly or repetitively up to a rate of about 30 flashes per second by the discharge of a capacitor through a Xenon lamp. Includes Xenon lamp, rectangular capacitor box, and trapezoidal control box.

Xenon lamp from a photic stimulator (stroboscope), made by Scophony of Wells in 1950. Used at the Burden Neurological Institute. Flashes were produced singly or repetitively up to a rate of about 30 flashes per second by the discharge of a capacitor. Connects to socket on the front of the control unit (2001-184/3).

Special capacitor box for Scophony photic stimulator (stroboscope). Made and used Burden Neurological Institute in order to maintain the intensity of the Scophony unit's flashes at relatively low flash rates. Inscribed with 'FLASHES PER MINUTE MAX / 300 / 200 / 100 / 50'.
