A three page letter from photographer Paul Strand (1890-1976) to photography writer and critic Ainslie Ellis (1920-1997), in which he recalls and pays tribute to the photographer Tony Ray-Jones (1941-1972).

Strand comments on the warmth and understanding of Ray-Jones' vision, as well as its complexity: the 'ability of the photographer to seize images constantly in change and movement' and to create unity.

Ainslie Ellis quotes from this letter in his essay on Ray-Jones's life and work in the 'British Journal of Photography Annual', 1973.
