AN/PSN-8 Manpack GPS receiver, manufactured by Rockwell Collins, Cedar County, Iowa, United States, 1988-1993.

The AN/PSN-8 Manpack was the one of the first GPS (Global Positioning System) receivers used by the military. Although it could be carried by a single person, it weighed 8KG and was bulky and cumbersome, so in practice was often strapped to vehicles such as trucks or helicopters. They were used by coalition forces during the First Gulf War, and allowed troops to navigate through the featureless desert terrain. The GPS division of Rockwell Collins was acquired by BAE Systems in 2020.
