Box and 1000mg ampoule of 'Nebido', a solution of the hormone testostorone for intramuscular injection, made by Bayer Pharma AG, Berlin, Germany, 2005-2012. This medication was taken by a young transgender man and donated to represent an aspect of their gender transition experience.

'Nebido' is a brand of testosterone hormone therapy, given by intramuscular injection every 10 to 14 weeks. It is designed to give a slow release and steady supply of testosterone directly into the bloodstream. It was made by Bayer Pharma AG, a German pharmaceutical company. This medication was taken by a young transgender man and donated to represent an aspect of their gender transition experience, around 2012.

Testosterone can be used by trans men to aid the development of male characteristics. Nebido can also be prescribed as hormone replacement therapy to treat hypogonadism, a condition where the body's sex glands produce too little of a certain hormone.

This object was donated following its display within a temporary exhibition at the Science Museum titled "What makes your gender?" in 2013, curated by a group of fifteen young transgender individuals working in partnership with the charity Gendered Intelligence.
