Five personal documents, examples of paperwork associated with a young trans individual's gender transition, British, c.2013. The documents include medical records, letters relating to the attendance and assessment at a gender identity clinic, and legal documents associated with the process of changing the individual's name.
When a person changes their gender identity this can involve a lot of documentation. These five personal documents belonged to a young transgender man who participated in developing a temporary exhibition at the Science Museum titled "What makes your gender?" in 2013, curated by a group of fifteen young transgender individuals working in partnership with the charity Gendered Intelligence. The documents include medical records, letters relating to attendance and assessment at a gender identity clinic. Also included are legal documents representing the process of changing the individual's name.
