Silicone 'chicken fillet' breast prosthesis, with plastic wrapping, unsigned, Europe, 2003-2013. Donated by a young trans individual to represent an aspect of their gender transition experience.

Described as a ‘chicken fillet’ because of its resemblance, this silicone breast prothesis can be used to simulate the shape of breasts by being inserted into a bra, changing the outward shape of the body. It was donated by a young trans individual as an object representing an aspect of their gender transition experience. It was chosen as a way to express their gender identity, through exploring changes to the outward presentation of their body.

This object was donated following its display within a temporary exhibition at the Science Museum titled "What makes your gender?" in 2013, curated by a group of fifteen young transgender individuals working in partnership with the charity Gendered Intelligence.
