Aquatinted illustration of the locomotive 'Jupiter' pulling carriages, entitled 'Travelling on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway,' by Isaac Shaw, 1831.

It was not only people that trains carried. The Liverpool and Manchester Railway was the first to transport the mail.

Behind the passengers with their piled-up luggage is a mailcoach.

The train transported letters much faster.

There is a facsimile of this print on display in the 1830 Station at the Science and Industry Museum.
