Rope driven overhead travelling crane made by Craven Brothers Ltd, Manchester, 1904. Includes beams, wheel braces, drive pulley frame and crab.

Craven Brothers was formed in 1853 at Dawson Croft Mill, Salford. The Company mainly produced machine tools, but also manufactured armaments during both world wars. As the Company grew it moved several times, relocating to Osborne St in north Manchester in 1863. Further works were constructed at Reddish, near Stockport in 1900. Overhead cranes like this one were used to move very large objects around factory floors.
