Horizontal milling machine made by Cunliffe and Croom, Manchester.

This is a horizontal milling machine made by the Manchester machine tool company of Cunliffe and Croom. Machines of this design were usually used for cutting ‘keyways’. These are slot-shapes cut into wheel-shafts to hold wedges or ‘keys’, which stabilise the rotation of the wheel.
