15 megawatt AC turbo-alternator with steam turbine, condenser and DC exciter, made by the English Electric Co. Ltd, Preston and Coventry, and Hick, Hargreaves & Co. Ltd, Bolton, in 1923 and used at the Back o' th' Bank Power Station, Bolton, between 1923 and 1984.
This steam turbine generating set was installed at Bolton power station in 1923 and was in commission until 1979. It was the largest of six new generating sets installed at the Back o' th' Bank Power Station, Bolton, in 1923. The Back o' th' Bank Power Station was a coal-fired power station built in 1914 to replace Bolton's first power station. Increasing demand led to its further expansion. By 1925 there were 10,000 customers, which increased to 30,000 by 1935.
