Patent ‘Aug 21 1900-Jan 1901’. “2501”-engraved label. Consists of main machine and smaller parts (loose), with two assembled series of cog wheels and various metal (95%) and wood (5%) spare parts. 4 wooden boxes of smaller parts.
Bilgram were a company based in Philadelphia, U.S.A. The bevel gear cutter was invented by Hugo Bilgram in1884, and patents were taken out in 1900 and 1901. Bevel gears are used to transmit power across different angles. There are different types of bevel teeth: straight, spiral and hypoid. A gear generator on the machine uses a single point cutting tool to cut perfectly shaped gear teeth.
